Number of Outs and the Odds

As a new member of BBOPSA (Bad Beat on PokerStars Anonymous), I was focused on one aspect of all bad beat stories I heard at my first session. And that is ‘the number of outs that #$@#!!$#% had when he hit on the river.’

Like this one time when I flopped the nuts and……..oh, sorry. I’m still in recovery and it slips out sometimes (twss).

For your copying pleasure, here is a chart that shows the number of outs and the actual odds of hitting those outs – on both the turn and the river.

# of Outs – Turn Odds and % - River Odds and %
1 – Turn 23 to 1 or 4% - River 45 to 1 or 2%
2 – Turn 12 to 1 or 8% - River 23 to 1 or 4%
3 - Turn 8 to 1 or 13% - River 15 to 1 or 7%
4 - Turn 6 to 1 or 17% - River 12 to 1 or 9% (inside straight draw)
5 - Turn 5 to 1 or 20% - River 9 to 1 or 11%
6 - Turn 4 to 1 or 24% - River 8 to 1 or 13% (two over cards)
7 - Turn 3.6 to 1 or 28% - River 7 to 1 or 15% (open ended straight draw)
8 - Turn 3.2 to 1 or 32% - River 5.7 to 1 or 17% (flush draw)
9 - Turn 3 to 1 or 35% - River 5.1 to 1 or 20 %
10 - Turn 2.6 to 1 or 38% - River 4.6 to 1 or 22 %
11 - Turn 2.4 to 1 or 42% - River 4.2 to 1 or 24 %
12 - Turn 2.2 to 1 or 45% - River 3.8 to 1 or 26 % (flush draw and gut shot)
13 - Turn 2.1 to 1 or 48% - River 3.5 to 1 or 28 %
14 - Turn 2 to 1 or 51% - River 3.3 to 1 or 30%
15 - Turn 1.85 to 1 or 54% - River 3.1 to 1 or 33% (straight flush draw)
16 - Turn 1.8 to 1 or 57% - River 2.9 to 1 or 35%
17 - Turn 1.7 to 1 or 60% - River 2.7 to 1 or 37 %
18 - Turn 1.6 to 1 or 62% - River 2.6 to 1 or 39%

Note: It has been statistically proven that Faldo’s opponent’s odds on the above chart can be quadrupled (that means multiplied by 4 - for those of you who work at Chrysler) – and Faldo’s odds chart of hitting those same outs can be divided by 9!

Sorry. It happened again. Maybe I should attend two sessions a week.

Odds are I am out for the npp @ ppl. It's bingo nite at my kids elementary and we play every year. I am known as the master of the B-8!
Have fun without me, I hear it is easy to do.

I'm wondering...how could a straight flush draw possibly have 15 outs?

If you have an open-ended straight flush draw, you have 3 outs to make a straight on one end, 3 outs to make a straight on the other end, 7 outs to make a flush, and 2 outs to make a straight flush. (15)
