The 20 Most Influential People in Poker

The folks over a BLUFF Magazine published their list. Faldo likes to publish his own. And since Faldo is always the runaway #1 most influential in poker - year after year – the poker world automatically excludes me from the list. After all, everyone already knows the obvious.

That said - as if it really needed to be – here is the rest of the list from #20 to #1(a).

20. Steve “Chops” Preiss – blogger of Wicked Chops Poker

19. Tony G (Antanas Guoga) – Owner of “Poker News” and a poker table “Don Rickles”

18. Phil Helmuth – Biggest poker free agent out there

17. Ray Bitar – Pocket Kings Software (Full Tilt)

16. Brian Balsbaugh, Poker Royalty, poker player agent

15 Matt Savage – Executive Tour Director of the World Poker Tour

14. Tom Dwan – His “all or nothing” approach at the “nosebleed stakes” is revolutionizing poker

13. Daniel Negreanu – Love him or hate him, he is one of the top ambassadors of the game

12. Phil Ivey – the best poker player in the world (just ahead of Faldo)

11. Eric “sheets” haber and Cliff “johnnybax” Josephy – they make $1 million backing poker pros on-line and on the tournament circuit.

10. Thai Food – On line Full Tilt poker pro that backs Faldo in on-line tournaments.

9. Ty Steward and Mitch Garber, - Caesars Interactive Entertainment and Directors of the WSOP

8. Isai Scheinberg, Founder of PokerStars

7. Mori Eskandani – CEO of Poker PROductions – High Stakes Poker and Poker After Dark

6. Howard Lederer – “The Professor” works behind the scenes to globalize and totally legalize the game of poker.

5. T3chlady, Derf-63, ThePunk75 and Pre01– they work with Faldo behind the scenes to set up some NPP events - which as soon as Faldo’s recovery is complete – will be announced.

4. Douge2 – His humor corner material keeps the NPP bloggers grinning.

3. Matchy – He tirelessly works to keep the NPP “friendly home game” alive, filling the void left by Faldo.

2. Boother36 – Able to move between the “Matchy game” to the Heartland Poker Tour/WSOP tour without ego. Runs tourneys and home games with all the amenities you would see in a casino in Las Vegas.

1. Michele Ingalls (UMichPoker) – Michigan Poker News – If you have a poker ‘jones’ at any time, this lady – with her emails and blog - tells you where the games and tournaments are.

KingBing420 Wins Her 2nd NPP Tourney - in Just Three Weeks!

Besting the other 20 players. Do we have a budding NPP super-star on our hands? Two wins and three straight final tables already in her short NPP career! Outstanding!

The ladies are putting lumps on the guy’s heads as they have won the last three NPP events. I always wondered why women wanted equality with men, when they were already superior.

There is a log jam at the top of the 1st quarter leader board, because with her win tonight, KingBing420 ties LittleRedElf for the league lead, with T3chlady just a point behind.

With his 2nd place finish tonight, Tigercub8189 moves into 4th, just 5 points behind the leaders. And there are 15 other players - that with a win next week - could possibly claim the top spot for themselves! This race is a long way from being over.

We welcomed back xxxKdogxxx to the fold and he final-tabled to show he still has it.

On to the NPP action:

1 min: SpartanFlash (21st) sees his (QQ) run into Deerf-63’s (KK). Ouch!

The Community Card Review – XXII

“I’m just trying to balance my budget.”

Now that statement may not go down in history with “Give me liberty or give me death!,” but it may have the same impact.

For those of you in Ann Arbor, a little history lesson you may not of heard in the public school system. Back when this nation was formed, citizens of the United States wanted freedom and liberty – or death - over tyranny and high taxes. No, honest.

Wisconsin governor Scott Walker uttered them and may trigger the end of the Democrat Party and their unholy union - with the Soviet Union – I mean “worker” unions. I bet most of you don’t know the first union was founded by two communists, who fled to the Soviet Union after killing some free men trying to earn a living.

The first union charter was not a declaration for “fair wages” or “safe working conditions”. Nope, it stated a union’s goal was the overthrow of the US capitalist system.

Walker has proposed cutting benefits for government employees. And more importantly, curbing the power government unions have to strangle the state with future financial demands.

He also wants state employees to contribute to their own pensions and health care, closer to the numbers that NON-GOVERNMENT workers do (who by the way, who are also already paying for the government worker’s healthcare thru taxes).

Walker also wants the state of Wisconsin to op out of directly collecting the union dues from the employees. Let the union collect them from workers who actually want to be in the union. Now THAT is real freedom!

In addition, he wants secret ballot elections required every year to see if state workers still want to be a member of a union. What?? Free and secret elections in a union??? Un-heard of. Unions would have to “negotiate” a new contract every year and the most they could ask for is a ‘cost of living’ amount tied to the Consumer Price Index – unless voters agree to a tax raise to pay for more.

The governor says getting these rules in place would balance the budget and save thousands of state worker layoffs and save Medicare coverage for thousands of children.

The state is preparing for the union thug backlash and will call in the National Guard if necessary. Remember, liberals do not protest peacefully, like the Tea Party does. They are liberals, communists and thugs. Period.

The vote on this proposal was scheduled and on the day of the vote – NONE of the Democrat lawmakers showed up for work! In fact all had left the state, bussed out of town by the National Democrat Headquarters.

Now I don’t care where you fall politically. But this has to be clear to anyone except the mentally retarded, that the Democrat Party is degenerate. When Pharaoh Obama and the Democrats took over the White House, the Senate and filled the courts with communists, the Republicans came to work, voted and took the losses.

When the Democrats unconstitutionally rammed healthcare thru Congress, the Republicans challenged them, voted against it, and peaceably abided with the lawlessness – rather than start a revolution.

Now that the shoe is just slightly on the other foot, the Democrat Party acts like a spoiled child – taking their ball and going home – instead of doing their job and voting one way or the other.

My fellow Americans, this should be the start of the death of the Democrat Party. They have shown themselves for what they truly are. If it isn’t this nation is doomed.

Douge2’s Humor Corner – LVII

Even Joe Got it Right

President Obama wakes up one morning, looks out of the White House window and sees 'The President Sucks' written in the snow in urine. Furious, he calls in the FBI and demands the perpetrators be found.

Later that day the FBI agents return. 'Well sir,' says the first agent, 'the urine has been analyzed and it's the Vice President's'. The President goes purple with rage and shouts, 'Is that all?'

'Well no sir,' says the agent, 'It's the First Lady's handwriting.'

Legal in Minnesota

I just got off the phone with Beerhog, back in his cottage in Minnesota. He said that since early this morning the snow has been nearly waist high and is still falling. The temperature is dropping below zero and the north wind is increasing. His wife has done nothing but look through the kitchen window all day.

He says that if it gets much worse, he may have to let her in.

Right is Wrong Sometimes

Well, I am sad to report that I lost the Trivia Contest during our church pot-luck dinner last night by 1 point! Not only did I get the last question wrong, but was immediately asked to leave.

The question was: "Where do women have the curliest hair?"

Apparently the correct answer is 'Fiji Islands'.

Nahanni74 Wins Her 1st NPP Tourney in Over a Year

But it is still her 9th win overall and she moves further up the NPP Walk of Fame. Our Canadian poker heroine needs to be more of a permanent fixture here. There is no telling how many NPP wins she would have if she played regularly.

We now have a “harem” of great lady poker players here at NPP.

Nahanni74
Suetman1
T3chlady
Dirtmonkey06
KingBing420
Messinagirl1

We welcomed back Mowin4116 tonight, and returned to a 20+ tourney. Thanks to all!

Derf-63 Wins His 2nd NPP Heads Up Tournament…In a Row!

Derf-63 is THE MAN in our one on one event! To win two straight double elimination tourneys over the players at NPP, is quite a feat!

Derf-63 is a man of few words and not into promoting himself at all.

Just like Faldo. Yes, I said………just like the GREAT FALDO!!!!

Anyway, we are left with his final opponent, K9isadog to give us some insight as to how it went down.

Before we read about the tourney, I also need to acknowledge the tremendous accomplishment of K9isadog. He came within one heads-up match from sweeping the board of NPP titles for 2010.

He won the league and the total points title by a record amount, and then made the finals in the Heads Up tourney. Nice job John (K9).

On to the tourney(s):

From K9isadog: “Derf kicked my ass!

I won the first game in dominating style (woof woof).

In the rubber match, I had my money in twice with me covering derf each time about 2-1, and each time Lady Luck smiled on Derf and gave me the finger. [Ed. Note: That is called “PokerStars Faldo Luck”.]

He eventually smothered my comeback from his astounding river catch when his (K5) (16%) hit when I flopped top pair (Jx) (84%) and he had straight draw.

He missed his straight but Kinged me crippling me to 600 chips.

Then with when my (A5)(58%) was called by his (KQ) (42%) and the [Q] flopped to screw me again.”

Well, as Clancy said after beating the Cincinnati Kid, “It gets down to what it’s all about, doesn’t it? Making the wrong move at the right time.”

Congratulations to both of these fine players on their accomplishments.

Faldo May Be On To Something

Jessica Biel is even thrilled about it. Of course she is thrilled just being near Faldo.

Faldo has played in hundreds of multi-table tournaments (MTT) on-line. The number of players is usually between a couple hundred to many thousands of participants. Because of these numbers, the distance between cashes and profitability can be quite large.

This slides Faldo into a panic mode. That is over –stating it, but let’s just say MTT poker goes from a hobby pastime to a job or an investment. Not near as much fun or as relaxing. In other words, I don’t like it.

As proven by my success in 1-table sit-n-goes (SNG), Faldo can cash at a reasonable rate when the number of players is not large. My win-cash rate is high enough to where my modified progressive betting system (MPBS) on SNG’s is working well. The swing in my bankroll never seems to get uncomfortable for me.

So these facts led me to work on a hybrid system. I could limit the number opponents to 90 or 180, and alter the MPBS to fit the larger time between cashes. After all, my record keeping has 5 years of win-cash rates in SNG’s.

What I settled on was a Final Table goal. Winning would be gravy, but a 5th place finish seemed reasonable as my bogey to get profit. In other words, when I reached a negative amount of lost entries that was greater than the 5th place payout of the tourney I was entering, I then would move up in stakes.

So far, so good! This system did not do so well in January, but the make-up cashes started in February, getting in the black.

Finally Faldo hit a 3rd place finish, which got me in the positive column – due to the moving up in stakes.

Then in the span of the next twelve tournaments, I got a 4th, 8th, 21st (which paid) and a 9th.

It’s early, but this looks like it just might work out. The goal is to slowly and continually build the bankroll – then take half of the profits to take shots at some big paydays. Conservation of the bankroll is always the first consideration.

The Community Card Review – XXI

The Congressional Oversite Panel, set up to monitor the effectiveness of the trillion dollar mortgage bail out program issued a report of their findings – two years after the money was spent by Pharaoh Obama and the Democrat money stealers in Congress.

The report finds that 6 million families are at least 2 months behind in their mortgage payments, and in addition, every month 200,000 people receive foreclosure notices.

The Oversite Panel also had to invent a new word – “re-default”. This is where the bailout got families up to date on their mortgages, got a re-finance with lower than market interest rates - only to see them default again later.

Why should you care? Because you are paying for this. This program is the worst failure of the many of the Czar Obama regime. Billions of tax dollars were wasted and families still lost their homes.

What is the King Obama and his court’s response to this failure? Well, more of the same of course. It is what liberals do. Compound their failures – with other people’s money of course.

The Democrats are reaching out to their socialist professors of Economics for solutions on how to save Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac – the Democrat mortgage slush fund, lead by the Mortgage Queen – Democrat Barney Frank.

In other words, find a way to make socialism, stealing of public finds and squandering of billions of dollars somehow work this time.

It never has, but the Democrats want to try again. What choice do they have? Admit failure or steal from the taxpayers yet again. They of course choose the latter.

Kick the can down the road. That is what liberals do – enrich themselves at the expense of others – now and even the future “others”. Right now your great grandchildren will still be paying this debt down – if we started now. And the Democrats don’t want that on their watch.

They will wait and blame the Republicans-conservatives-Tea Party when the real pain starts. It is what Democrats do. They start the fire and then stand on the sidelines and throw rocks at the firefighters with the help of their comrades in the media.

But that is for 2014 if our country makes it that far.

You don't think a repeat of Egypt could happen here? When our dollar collapses and necessities become scarce - which is what triggered the events in Egypt - watch and see.

The Democrats are spendiing us there - and everyone in Washington knows it - no matter which way they vote or which party they belong to. Everyone knows Democrats are communists. But only Faldo calls them what they are.

Theedouble*d Scores an MTT Tourney Win on PokerStars!

This deserves a re-run of Jemma!

Faldo. is SUPER-jealous! I want one of these victories.

Theedouble*d fought thru a mob of 2837 players and won a PokerStars No Limit Holdem tournament, collecting a fantastic 455 times his entry.

I think it elevates Theedouble*d to the [LittleRedElf – Boother36 - 7Jokers - K9isadog - ThePunk75] level.

Faldo remains two rungs under the [Davethedog] level.

KingBing420 Wins in Her 1st NPP Tourney!

She is the 10th person to win in their first attempt and the 2nd woman to do so (Yecats423 was the other lady). She is also the 59th NPP winner in history.

She was one of two new players tonight. Messingairl1 also joined us with a great showing also. Welcome to NPP. And Nahanni74 made her return to the league this evening. It was Girl Power on display as T3chlady's finish, gave her the 1st quarter lead!

The NPP Walk of Fame - Review

Some may not be aware of their immortality.

We have a Walk of Fame at Niks Poker Palace. It is the Wall of Champions, like the one that hangs in Binion's with all the WSOP Main Event Winners.

Win a tournament on Tuesday, and you get your name on it. We have had fifty-eight separate winners in our history.

Win another, and you begin to climb over the ones with less.

I have decided to revamp the list. I am giving players currently playing top billing over those we will probably never see again - within their total win grouping.

I also culled out the live NPP victories. We have over five years of internet league play, and that is what NPP is now. An internet tournament league.

I will not give the total numbers of wins that each player has. But trust in the fact that if your name is above someone elses, you are even or ahead of that person.

That is four straight second time winners winning. Only sixteen players were on hand on this snowy snowy night. An unexpected light turnout, but one of our best past players returned – Fourbetbluff.

Absea98 takes over the league lead with this win, but it is a log jam behind him.

Maybe everyone was storm watching.

On to the action:

17 min: T3chlady (16th) and her (AJ) cannot catch Suetman1’s (TT). Sue was the big killer tonight, basically emptying the tourney.

21 min: K9isadog (15th) is double-teamed by Gnosis1970 and the winner, Suetman1.
39 min: Tomservo2 (14th) is triple-teamed out of the tourney.
41 min: Gnosis1970 (13th) loses a coin flip with (AK) to Suetman1 with (TT).
42 min: Absea98 with (AA) eliminates Fourbetbluff (12th) and Wingsfancurt (11th).
45 min: ThePunk75 (10th) sees his (AQ) fall to Suetman1’s (55).
50 min: Mikeniks-Faldo (9th) sees his (QQ) get run down by Derf-63’s (TT) with a [T] on the flop.

55 min: A short-stacked (SS) BigDaddyTman (8th) has to go with (A5), but Suetman1 hits a straight with (Js Ts).

57 min: SpartanFlash (7th) is double-teamed out of the tourney by Tommydoo and the winner of the hand, Absea98.

58 min: LittleRedElf (6th) moves with (QQ), but Derf-63 runs him down with (KQ) and a [K] on the flop.

1st break:
Suetman1 8705
Absea98 6785
Derf-63 3535
Tommydoo 2965
Douge2 2010

68 min: Tommydoo (5th) is double-teamed by Suetman1 and the winner Absea98.

Now a long battle ensues until:

105 min: A SS Derf-63 (4th) tries with (83) but Suetman1 has (J3). Seven kills already!

118 min: Douge2 (3rd) is eliminated as his pair of Aces loses to Suetman1’s straight.

Eight kills!

Heads up: Absea98 12000 - 12000 Suetman1
120 min: Absea98 12890 - 11110 Suetman1
125 min: Absea98 17000 - 7000 Suetman1
130 min: Absea98 17600 - 6400 Suetman1
135 min: Absea98 15300 - 8700 Suetman1

139 min: A SS Suetman1 (2nd) has to ship it with (Ks Js), but Absea98 has (QQ).
