Rownder Wins NPP Internet Tourney #17

A record tying twelve players showed up tonight for the game. Two new players showed up – Nahanni and Duder. Hopefully they will tell us their connection on this site. Or someone else can.

Which is usually the case at NPP, the new players were treated rudely once the game started. On hand #10 Duder’s (12th) trip 3’s were beaten by an ArticBlast flush.

Hand 16 saw a bad beat on a new player as Nahanni’s (11th) JJ lost to Beerhog’s 99 with a 9 on the flop.

Matchy (10th) went out on hand 24. I did not see it as he was on the other table and I did not get a report. Maybe Matchy can give us the gory details.

Now to one table. A short-stacked Momo (9th) went all in on hand 48 with a marginal hand and lost to Cigar4John, who called with a marginal hand.

Hand 51 saw Sev4TSev (8th) get trapped when he bet with Ah8h and was called by Beerhog with Ad3d. The flop was 8d 2d As. Sev4TSev hit the two pair. He went all in and Beerhog called and hit the 5d for the flush on the river.

Hand 59 saw a short-stacked ArticBlast (7th) get all his chips in with trip 7’s on the river. He was called by Cigar4John called with the same trip 7’s and had ArticBlast out kicked! Ouch!

Hand 61 – I was short-stacked and got all my chips in with QQ and got called by Cigar4John with AQ. That got me back in the game.

Hand 77 – Cigar4John (6th) made a play with 98s but was called by Beerhog with AQ. He didn’t need it but Beerhog got an A on the flop and a Q on the river.

Play really slowed down at this point. BonA1r (5th) lost on hand 131 with K7 against somebody’s KT. I messed up my notes somehow. Sorry.

Hand 148 saw short-stacked Hlam (4th) go all-in with K7s and was called by the other short-stacked Rownder with J9s. The flop was a teaser for Hlam with a 3-K-9. But a 9 on the river ended Hlam’s night.

The second break occurred after hand 184. Beerhog had 12K, I had 4K and Rownder had 2K.

I (Nik Faldo – 3rd) was the next one out on hand #234!!! Lots of back and forth as we all had the chip lead at some point. It was very exciting and a lot of fun. I finally had to go with KTs, was called by Beerhog with A5 and I got no help.

The last hand saw Beerhog’s (2nd) QT lost to Rownder’s AJs. Great job Rownder!

1st – Rounder
2nd – Beerhog
3rd – Mikeniks (Nik Faldo)
4th – Hlam14
5th – BonA1r
6th – Cigar4John
7th – ArticBlast
8th – Sev4TSev
9th – Momo
10th – Matchy
11th – Nahanni
12th - Duder

Nahanni is one of our Canadian friends and I believe she used to work with Boother. I have played against her a few times at Boother's. Duder is the founder of the company I work for who I helped get signed up on pokerstars last week. Welcome to NPP both of you even though you probably won't read this. Hopefully you will be back for more after your rude welcome! If anyone cares I overplayed pocket AA to Beerhog's trip jacks for an early exit. I wasn't going to let anyone push me around. Even though he kicked my ass, it was good to see the Hog back online.

Matchy, thanks for the info! U da man!
Give them the link to the website.
Yucking it up here is half the fun.

Play lasted for over 2.5 hours last night. Probably the record.

Rownder did a great job. Short stacked against Beerhog and me at the second break is not a good place to be. I know I wouldn't like it (or be successful from it).

Yes...I am Canadian (isn't that a beer commercial or something?)...and I used to work with Booth, then left...and then went back...so I work with booth and rownder. Matchy...I'm trying to figure out who you are (and how you knew it was me).

Well...I've already signed up for tomorrow...hopefully I won't suffer a horrible bad beat like last time (probably shouldn't have called an all-in with JJ anyway).

Nik...I am curious how you find time for your website and to blog the poker match...?

Welcome Jen! Great question.
What you don't know also is that I have a job - which leads to alot of travel. Not constant, but steady. Over half the time I am playing the tourney from a hotel room somewhere.

This leads to some downtime in airports, restaurants and hotel/motel rooms. I could sit in the bars or watch TV in the room, but instead I research for lqblog.com, the poker blog, and play alot of poker on-line. I have spent a week in a hotel and never turned the TV on once. When driving I have talk shows on my Ipod I listen to in order to do even more research.

Plus at lunch I usually read a book of some type (as bad as I play it should be all poker books, but I digress).

And I still get in 3 rounds of golf a week! I do cheat around the house as I do have a lawn service (a savings of 5 hours of work - which allows one of the rounds of golf!). House repairs - except for simple stuff - is done by professionals.

"Much may be done in those little shreds and patches of time which every day produces, and which most men throw away." - Charles Caleb Colton

My wife would appreciate it more if I used this time I save to make money instead of "diarrhea of the keyboard", poker, chess and hitting golfballs into the woods.

Jennifer-I am just one of Boother's buddies, I have played against you @ his house and Andy's. Just an average guy, not the dude the that took his clothes off and put his underwear on his head (remember that at Andy's!). I wish my great poker made me a standout but....

Matchy, I think I remember you now...I definitely won't forget Roger and the underware incident...I actually added a little art to the picture that was taken of roger and dan arm and arm (with roger in his tighty whities)...I put the Dumb and Dumber movie banner under the two of them and then at the top of the photo put "this is a public service annoucement, please drink responsibly". I think I still have it...you'll have to give me your email so I can send to you. As for playing...didn't we play at the same table one time at booth's and your wife sat next to me? didn't I take her out? I think I remember.

Uh and Nik...I was about to ask if you were married (just cuz I didn't think you would have time for all this if you were)...but the traveling thing makes sense. man...everytime I saw a business man on his laptop at the airport, I just assumed he was a hard worker.

Oh...this might peak your poker interests...I hit my first royal flush last night at casino windsor...would you like to hear about it?

Yep thats me. (The guy who's wife you knocked out of the tourney, not the NAMBLA guy.)
Now lets hear about that royal flush!

PS Doesn't NAMBLA stand for the Nat'l Man/Beer Love Assn.?

~ Royale with Cheese ~

I hit a royal flush last night………but it was sort of anti-climatic for several reasons
#1) I was all-in on the flop
#2) only one other person in the hand with me
#3) I only had $35 to push all-in with.

But hey…I’ll take it.

Let me set the stage…I have crazy drunk ass retard to my immediate right. This guy was what you dream for (sort of) because he would call $15+ pre-flop (with blinds that are $1/$2) with something like J6 offsuit. And if the flop was AK6, he would call you all the way to the river. Sometimes he would call with absolutely nothing…and big bets too. I’m thinking “please just give me a hand…give me something…and I can double up off this guy.” And he smelled!...like beer and man-ass. I would have changed seats, but I thought having him to my right would be most profitable. Anyhow, the guy to my left played a bit better (starting hands at least), but his MO was such that if he connected with the flop in any way, he would overbet the pot HUGE! If there was 10 in the pot, he’d bet out 15…15 in the pot, he’d bet out 25…25 in the pot, he’d bet out 40.

Ok…so I am in the SB and I get K10 of clubs and someone makes it $10 pre-flop…there are 5 people in the pot total ($50 in the pot pre-flop). The flop comes AcQcJd…so I flopped a straight with the nut flush draw. There were several people in the hand...the type of players that if they had a 3-high flush, they would keep chasing the flush with minimal bets and I would get paid off……anyhow, I of course check the damn thing and over-betting-guy to my left over-bets the pot with a bet of $75…(surprise, surprise). I’m thinking “you ass! You’re going to drive everybody out!”…sure enough, everybody folds to Crazy to my right……and Crazy is thinking of calling…he is counting his chips…he is like “hmmmm…there could be a flush draw out there…”…then buddy to my left is like “that’s why I made the bet so big”…I’m thinking “hellllloooooo! I’m still in the hand you asses!”……and I am also thinking “please, please, please Crazy make one of your donkey calls…please have a little something and call……please”………but much to my chagrin, the Crazy folds. Now buddy to my left has been so self-absorbed since I sat down (well probably before I sat down)…but he was constantly playing out of turn…he’d fold before I did and would call before I did…it was driving me nuts…(he is a regular in the poker room and you would think he would know not to play out of turn)……so as soon as Crazy folded, he was about to muck his hand and rake in the pot…………I’m like “uh…I call…I’m all-in”…of course I only had $35 left. He’s like “do you have an Ace?”…do I have an Ace???? is that all I need to beat you? you mean my straight with the nut flush/royal flush draw is over kill? (like your bets).........do I have an ace?………so we flip our cards over and he has Q8. he was pretty much drawing dead and so he was counting out $35 to me before the hand was over……the turn was a 5h and the river was Jc…my first royal. Then Crazy next to me is like "wow...nice hand"...I hadn't said a word since I sat down at the table and so it sort of blurted out of me by accident "thanks...why couldn't you make one of your donkey calls that time???!!!".......Crazy was like "donkey? what? donkey? I don't know what you are talking about...looks like I am doing fine" and he points to about $200 in chips.........well sure enough, by the time I left he had blown through the $200 and rebuyed for $100 at least 3 times. crazy stinky donkey!

oh...you probably don't want to use that nambla term too much...it stands for North American Man-Boy Love Association.

look it up on wikipedia...

Beerhog knows that, Jenny. He is the president of that organization.

I am working hard at the airport. Just not on work stuff. I am not paid so much on what I do, but on what I know and what I figure out.

I am a supplier quality engineer and I help our suppliers figure out where they are screwing up. I either have it figured out before I get there or I have to be there to figure it out. So not much to do on the trip itself.

What does being married have to do with my busy schedule and hobbies? She has plenty of time to hold down a regular job, cook, clean, wash, iron, wash my car and sleep with me if she gets it all done on time and to my satisfaction.

oh that is funny Nik...I take it that your wife doesn't bother to ever read your website.

ok...now if you recap tonight's game, you will have highlight how I got horribly beat yet again! I have AA and the flop is KJx and I think bonair dude bets out 90...I re-raise to 180...he calls...then the turn is 4...he bets (I think) and I go all-in...he calls...he has K4. whaaaa!!! Whaaaaaa!!!!! gone! 30 minutes. it's my fault, didn't raise enough pre-flop. whatever. I'm folding pocket pairs preflop from now on.
