Phil Galfond (OMGClayAiken) has been one of the most feared on-line players in the world for years. Except for Tom Dwan, the mysterious “Isildur,” and of course Faldo – no one has garnered more ink, praise or recognition in the on-line poker world.
Galfond launched BluefirePoker dot com, a poker training site. Here are a few of his tips:
Ask yourself, why am I betting? – There should be a reason behind it. Build a pot? Chase out better hands? Setting up a play later? Protecting your hand? The important thing is to go thru the process of understanding why you are raising.
Ask yourself, why are they betting? – Try to get inside your opponent’s head and …again, go thru the process of thinking about it. Don’t “insta”-any poker decision.
Quit – for a while – if need be. – Don’t play if you are miserable, tired, distracted, or sick. This is just common sense – like not voting for Democrats – but people mindlessly do it anyway.

Phil Galfond is one of the best online cash game players in the world. But, I think ultimately he will leave his biggest impression with his poker articles and books.
